Fundraising

The Colchester Historical Society obtains financial support from both public and private sources. The Community Museum Assistance Program (CMAP), administered by the Heritage Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, is our primary contributor and supports approximately 40% of annual operating costs.

Additional grants have been received from local municipal governments and from various provincial and federal programs.  Private donations to the Colchester Historical Society Annual Fund are essential for our operating budget. Revenues from a Memorial Trust Fund and from museum and archival services also contribute to our sustainability.

Fundraising projects throughout the year often include yard and bake sales in the spring and autumn, a plant sale, a Wild Blueberry Special, a Heritage Luncheon, a used book sale, and a “Heat the Building” Luncheon.

Annual Appeal

In October and November we actively seek financial assistance from members, friends, and corporate organizations with an interest in heritage.  Annual appeal funds have become vital to our operating needs. Please remember us in your charitable donation plans for this year.

Donating to the Trust Fund

The Society’s Memorial Trust Fund receives bequests, special gifts and a portion of the life membership fees.  These funds are invested and interest from these investments is contributed to the operating budget.  Anyone interested in donating to the memorial trust fund or preparing a planned gift for later may consult with our treasurer or curator.
