2026 Heritage Award Nominations Now Open

Wednesday, April 15, 2026,

The Colchester Historical Society annually celebrates individuals or groups who make a substantial contribution to Colchester County heritage.

Awards are considered for any work of heritage, which may include, but is not limited to: written work, built heritage, visual arts with a heritage-related theme, or musical composition or presentation.

If you know a deserving candidate, we'd like you to tell us about them. Complete and return the nomination form found here by April 15, 2026.

Awards will be presented at 7pm, Wednesday, May 6.

Copies are also available at the Historeum front desk.

Colchester Historeum 3rd Annual Fashion Show

Thanks, everyone, for your support. All tickets are now sold for the Colchester Historeum's 3rd Annual Fundraising Fashion Show!

We'll be showcasing the latest in spring and summer wear for men and ladies from Elegant Steps and Take It Outside, along with textile displays from the Historeum’s own collection.

Our guests will enjoy giveaways, desserts and mocktails while raising valued community support for Colchester County’s museum and archives.

Doors open at 6:30 pm, the fun starts at 7 pm. See you there!

History Hub: The Role of Train Porters

Many local Black men found employment within the railway. As a continuation of the recent railway lecture series, this Hub session led by CHS member Elinor Maher will explore the lives of sleeping car porters and other railway employees from Truro’s Black communities, and the challenges they faced due to racism.

"Grist: Putting the Muse in Museum" Lunch + Learn with author Linda Little

June 03, 2026, 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

Join author Linda Little for a Lunch & Learn presentation as she recounts how her historical novel, "Grist", was born in the Balmoral Grist Mill where she worked for many seasons.

In addition to short readings from her novel, she will examine how narratives built on the past shape our understanding of where we came from and where we are.

Her presentation will also explore the assumptions made and the subsequent stories told about women's place in history.

Linda Little is a history buff and the author of three novels including "Grist." In addition to her work at the Nova Scotia museum, she has taught at the Agricultural Campus and now works part-time as a baker.

Bring your lunch, refreshments provided.
