Five awards will be presented by the Colchester Historical Society on Thursday, February 24, at the Heritage Night Celebration.
A conference celebrating the Year of the Planters in Cobequid is set for June 11 at the Marigold Cultural Centre.
A two-day conference in June, a historic re-enactment in July and a full year of dress up are in store for many Colchester County residents as they celebrate the Year of the Planters in Cobequid (1761-2011).
“The Colchester Historical Society Museum and Archives has put together an exhibit from holidays gone by, when baby dolls were bought for pennies and one-horse open sleighs dashed across the countryside filled with laughing children and the sound of bells echoed in the brisk winter air.”
“The Planters were among the earliest English-speaking settlers in this area,” said Mr. Scott Armstrong. “In 1761, they set about re-establishing their lives on this rich farmland, and we benefit to this day from their hard work. In the two and a half centuries since then, the soil has remained rich and our history has been even richer, thanks to the diligence and determination of the Planters.”
